What is Fair Trade?
That’s a tricky question, there are many definitions, a number of ways the term is written, and disinformation is common. Put simply, most Fair Trade organizations are working with producers to ensure safe working conditions, fair pay, and community development. Some projects also assist with education, skills training, health & child care, keeping traditional crafts alive and counseling.
You can check out how the Fair Trade Association of Australia and New Zealand defines it at
What do we mean when we say ‘ethical’?
Ethical is a word you hear plenty of these days, but what does it actually mean? For SRP ethical means a project or a product that has been produced with ethics involving Fair Trade conditions, Ecological concerns or Social Justice in mind. Sometimes we may also support a group who provide a product or service which aims to lift the vibration of the end user or planet generally. SRP is now a proud member of the Fair Trade Association of Australia and New Zealand www.fta.org.au

Who is behind SRP?
ScissrsRockPaper is the manifestation of my desire to help people in challenging circumstances, to uphold values in business and to support fellow yogis on their path! After working in a Fair Trade retail shop for several years, I realized that I was highly committed to the ideal of Fair Trade, but wanted to take my contribution to another level. So began the experiment in courage and trust I now call ScissorsRockPaper.
As a yoga practitioner and teacher, I feel strongly about the concept we find in the Yoga Sutras, Ashteya – non-stealing. I want to know that the products I buy are supporting a system of fairness in trade and consideration for the earth. I figured other yoga practitioners would also be interested in this, as well as just being able to access beautiful, earthy, hand made yoga related gear! As a creative person it's also very important to me to see that traditional crafts are valued and supported.
I hope you enjoy browsing the store, getting to know the producers and find some gear to treasure as much as I treasure mine. SRP is definitely a work in progress, so please feel free to drop me a line with your comments and suggestions.

I’m interested in practicing Yoga; can you help me find a studio?
SRP firmly believes in fostering community within the world of Yoga, Meditation & Fair Trade, which is why you’ll find links on our Friends of SRP page to studios, teachers and other Fair Trade & Eco minded stores we know and love. This will be an ever expanding list, so check back from time to time.
I run/ work in an ethically minded business that is looking for ways to engage in Corporate Social Responsibility activities, can you help me?
We'd love to! One of SRP’s aims is to assist businesses to find quick and easy ways to contribute to Social Justice and Fair Trade. We currently offer a range of gifts and cards which make perfect gifts for your staff or customers. We particularly specialise in supplying personalised, hand made Christmas Cards for your staff/ customers at a special bulk order rate. If you’d like to discuss how we can help you, don’t hesitate to contact us.
Is SRP’s gear tested?
Absolutely! ScissorsRockPaper is first and foremost for yogis, by yogis, which means we’re always looking for ways to improve our designs so they work better for your practice. If you have any feedback, don’t be shy, all comments are encouraged and appreciated. We are still in the early stages of developing the project, so if there are any additional products you’d love to see available, let us know.
Can I wash my gear?
All of the gear made from the beautiful hand woven fabric from Thailand is machine washable (separately). So you can definitely pop your well loved mat bag or cushion cover into the wash. These items are made using colour fast dyes, the red colours do sometimes run, which is why we recommend washing separately. Items like scarves and wraps are best hand washed with a gentle laundry detergent. A quick press using medium heat should have them looking their best again.
Can I follow you on Facebook?
