A bit about Jess and Yoga Teaching
I have been privileged to teach Hatha Vinyasa Yoga for the past 3 ½ years in many studios across Brisbane. I have taught a range of different practices including beginner’s courses, dynamic level 2 classes, gentle relaxation yoga and prenatal classes.
My classes create safe space for students to explore yoga in a way that suits their unique body and temperament. My vinyasa flow style classes gently warm and open the body, they also encourage the practice of staying present – a skill that can be taken into many other aspects of life. My Hatha style classes allow for individual adjustments, allowing students to work consciously with their individual needs. I include poses that develop strength and flexibility, along with pranayama (breath exercises) and deep relaxation so the benefits of the practice are absorbed.
I originally came to yoga with the aim of improving my physical fitness and calming my mind. I was a student during many of these years and came to rely on my yoga practice more and more to find balance and manage stress. I wanted to know more about the physical and spiritual practices of yoga and enrolled in the Radiant Light Yoga Teacher Training program. I soon realised that Yoga can be a powerful tool for self-healing and even better, preventative therapy.
Since these first steps toward becoming a Yoga Teacher I have continued my exploration and education by completing the Radiant Light Yoga Level Two teacher training, Iyengar style alignment workshops with Jamie Denham as part of the YogaPhysio Teacher Training and ongoing training and classes with Tamara James of YogaPhysio. I have also studied with world renowned Anusara Yoga founder John Friend in early 2011 and will study with Clive Sheridan in November 2011.
It brings me great joy to share what I have learned with others and to assist them to take responsibility for their health and wellbeing. I have developed a deep appreciation for the transformative power of yoga, from the purely physical level to the emotional and spiritual. I have seen my students gain enormous value from the practice of self observation, development of body wisdom and movement as meditation.
